Software Engineer – Data Platform

About the role

Join Notion’s Data Platform team to build the core data infrastructure that powers AI, analytics, and search for large‑scale enterprise customers. You will design, implement, and operate a modern lakehouse while ensuring strict security, privacy, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Design and evolve the data lakehouse, including Iceberg/Hudi/Delta tables, catalogs, and schema management.
• Build and operate critical batch and streaming pipelines using Spark, Kafka, and related technologies.
• Integrate Enterprise Key Management (EKM) and encryption‑by‑design into data workflows.
• Develop primitives for fine‑grained access control, auditing, and data residency.
• Raise reliability and observability of the data stack, improving on‑call experience and alerting.
• Optimize performance and cost across Kafka, Spark, and storage for very large workspaces.
• Shape the platform roadmap and enable product teams to leverage scalable data infrastructure.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience building and operating data platforms or large‑scale SaaS infrastructure.
• Strong programming skills in at least one of Python, Scala, or Typescript.
• Proficiency with SQL for analytics and data modeling.
• Hands‑on experience with Spark or similar distributed processing systems, including debugging and performance tuning.
• Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka.
