Skilled Trades Helper

About the role

The Skilled Trades Helper supports the Maintenance Operations team at University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College by assisting in a variety of skilled‑trade tasks. This entry‑level position offers hands‑on experience across multiple trades in a campus environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming trees and bushes, and clearing debris.
• Assist under supervision with carpentry, electrical wiring, fixture installation, and computer cabling.
• Help install, assemble, and repair HVAC, plumbing, gas, water, and waste‑disposal systems according to code.
• Conduct inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on boilers, air compressors, and related equipment.
• Check hallways, stairways and public areas for non‑working lights and replace ballasts, transformers, fuses or switches as needed.
• Provide support to painters, plasterers, and welders in surface preparation and finishing.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training is a plus.
• Ability to follow instructions and learn on the job.
• Reliable, regular attendance and a safety‑first mindset.
• Physical ability to perform manual labor and lift moderate loads.
