Senior Programme Management Assistant

About the role

The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) seeks a Senior Programme Management Assistant to provide administrative support to the Global Security Systems, Standards and Projects Team. This position is based in the Division of Headquarters Safety and Security in New York and reports to the Senior Security Project Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Provide full‑range programme and project management assistance for security systems implementation, liaising with senior officials and administrative staff across headquarters and duty stations.
• Coordinate budget, finance and procurement issues with local project teams, draft budgets and forecasts, and prepare monitoring checklists.
• Research, compile and analyse data on Section 33 security projects, track legislative changes, and ensure database updates.
• Supervise and support local staff on Section 33 matters, draft newsletters, and produce reports, briefings and correspondence.
• Establish and manage internal databases, and provide technical supervision for procurement, IT and maintenance activities.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; a first‑level university degree reduces required experience.
• Minimum ten years of progressively responsible experience in finance, budgeting, programme or project administration (eight years with a university degree).
• Experience conducting large‑scale procurement processes in the United Nations or similar international organization.
• Knowledge of internal UN policies, programme/project administration, budgeting and financial analysis.
• Ability to design and manage information databases and supervise office support staff.
