Safety and Research Compliance Manager, College of Engineering

About the role
The Manager of Safety and Research Compliance reports to the Associate Dean for Research and serves as the College of Engineering's primary resource for research safety and compliance. This position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for programs that support the College's research, teaching, and outreach missions while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and university regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and administer programs that promote a culture of safety, security, and regulatory excellence across laboratories, machine shops, makerspaces, and testing facilities.
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, EH&S, Office of Research, Sponsored Programs, Campus Public Safety, and other institutional partners.
- Conduct regular inspections, travel among engineering buildings, and provide support during emergencies, evenings, or weekends.
- Serve as a member of the College or University emergency response and incident management team as needed.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Emergency Management, Research Administration, or a related discipline.
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience supporting research safety, laboratory operations, export controls, research compliance, or research security in a research‑intensive environment.
- Experience supporting federally‑sponsored research programs; preferred master’s degree and professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CECP, CPP, PSP, PMP).
Required skills
- Knowledge of federal regulations such as OSHA, EPA, EAR, CMMC, ITAR, and OFAC.
- Proficiency with compliance management systems, data analysis, and Microsoft Office applications.
