About the role
The Processing Archivist and Cataloging Librarian supports the Helmerich Center for American Research by classifying, organizing, and providing access to the Gilcrease Museum’s Library and Archives collections. Working full‑time on‑site, this role collaborates with the Archivist, Reference and Outreach Librarian, and Collections Content Metadata Manager to enhance discovery for diverse audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Perform original and complex copy cataloging of monographs, serials, audiovisual media, maps, manuscripts, photographs and other formats using RDA, DCRM(B), DACS, LC‑PCC, LCC, LCSH and Getty AAT.
- Develop and maintain bibliographic records, metadata, subject analysis, authority control, and quality control for both library and archival materials.
- Supervise, train and manage student interns, graduate assistants and volunteers in cataloging, labeling, reshelving and handling of materials.
- Record processing and cataloging statistics for internal review and annual reporting.
- Assist researchers in the Reading Room, support tours, and provide guidance on using bibliographic and archival catalogs.
- Process archival manuscripts and records in physical and born‑digital formats, and create collection descriptions and research guides using ArchivesSpace.
Required profile
- Fluency in English; reading knowledge of Spanish preferred.
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA‑accredited program preferred; equivalent graduate degree and experience considered.
- Demonstrated analytical, organizational, communication, project and time‑management skills.
- Experience supervising university students or volunteers and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.
Required skills
- Proficiency with cataloging standards: RDA, DCRM(B), DACS, LC‑PCC, LCC, LCSH, MARC.
- Familiarity with controlled vocabularies: Art & Architecture Thesaurus (Getty), AAT, linked data.
- Experience with integrated library systems (WMS) and archival management software (ArchivesSpace).
- Strong computer literacy, including use of web, social media and library‑relevant IT applications.
