Plant Operator – Wastewater Treatment (Public Works)

About the role

The Wastewater Plant Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a public‑works wastewater treatment facility. The position works on an 8‑hour shift schedule, including weekends and on‑call rotation, to ensure continuous compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor pumps, motors, chlorinators, filters, and chemical feeders, making adjustments to maintain proper flow and treatment standards.
• Perform basic chemical and bacteriological tests, collect representative samples, and coordinate laboratory analysis.
• Enter and maintain daily logs, operational records, and monthly compliance reports.
• Adjust chemical feeds, replenish treatment chemicals, and manage chlorine cylinder changes while using appropriate PPE.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment, including belts, valves, piping, and emergency generators.
• Respond to natural or man‑made emergencies and provide essential personnel support during outages.

Required profile

• Valid wastewater plant operator license (C, B, or A) with eligibility for additional pay based on license level.
• Experience up to five years in wastewater treatment operations (trainee experience excluded).
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and on‑call duty.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and wear specialized protective equipment.

What we offer

• Compensation based on experience with an additional 3% above minimum salary per year (up to five years).
• License premium pay: C‑License $2,500, B‑License $3,500, A‑License $4,500.
• Dual‑licensed operators receive an extra 50% of the secondary license premium.
