Part-Time Juvenile Detention Counselor (Savannah, GA)

About the role

This part‑time position (up to 29 hours per week) provides structured cognitive‑behavioral and life‑skills group counseling to juveniles in a detention or long‑term facility. The counselor documents program activities, performs administrative duties, and helps maintain a safe and secure environment for youth.

Key responsibilities

• Support the delivery of all programs and case‑management services.
• Provide structured cognitive‑behavioral or life‑skills group counseling sessions and document all activities.
• Facilitate or co‑facilitate groups and participate in facility‑wide PBIS activities.
• Conduct daily rounds on the living unit to identify and address youth needs.
• Provide evening and weekend coverage for social, emotional, and behavioral support.
• Perform admission and orientation of youth in accordance with policy.
• Deliver programming and assist full‑time counselors when critical needs arise.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Preferred degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Forensic Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related field.
• At least one year of direct case‑management experience with offenders or families.
• Experience working with juvenile offenders in detention facilities or at‑risk youth in group‑home programs.
• Three‑month internship with the Department of Juvenile Justice (preferred).
