Parole Success Advocate – Women’s Prisons

About the role

The Parole Success Advocate is a core member of UnCommon Law’s Home After Harm pilot, creating a therapeutic community for women’s prison participants preparing for parole. The role leads weekly group sessions, provides one‑on‑one support, and maintains connection through letters, calls, or video when in‑person programming is limited.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and facilitate weekly in‑person group sessions, documenting case notes and participant progress.
• Conduct individual meetings, review documents, and provide written or virtual support to participants.
• Lead peer‑mentor training and offer ongoing collaborative support to inside facilitators.
• Develop, adapt, and update gender‑responsive curriculum and program materials for women’s prisons.
• Schedule calls, manage participant records, and coordinate logistics for prison visits.
• Communicate with prison and parole officials, as well as community service providers.
• Travel throughout California to Central California Women’s Facility and other prisons as needed.

Required profile

• Personal experience living in a California women’s correctional facility and navigating the discretionary parole process.
• Strong facilitation skills using trauma‑informed, person‑centered approaches.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.
• Highly organized, self‑reflective, and able to manage pressure and vicarious trauma.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Zoom for video conferencing.
• Ability to use Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.) and quickly adopt new technology platforms.
