About the role

HEI, a leading civil construction company operating across several U.S. states, is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join its Dallas team. The role involves operating a range of heavy equipment on projects that include roads, bridges, water infrastructure, and environmental restoration, with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, front loaders, skid steers, bulldozers, motor graders, and tanker trucks.
• Follow all safety policies, site rules, and traffic regulations while operating equipment.
• Maintain three points of contact on equipment at all times.
• Respond to signals from crew members and coordinate activities.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and complete check‑lists.
• Clean, maintain, and conduct routine inspections of assigned machinery.
• Report any needed repairs or safety violations to the supervisor.
• Attend daily safety meetings and report incidents promptly.
• Carry out additional tasks assigned by the foreman when not operating equipment.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience operating primary heavy equipment.
• Understanding of computerized controls and basic electronics.
• Excellent hand‑eye‑foot coordination.
• Basic knowledge of construction principles and procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, plans, maintenance instructions, and operational procedures.
• Strong teamwork orientation.
