Mission Design Tools Software Engineer

About the role

Join the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) contract as a Mission Design Tools Software Engineer. You will support on‑orbit GN&C and Flight Mechanics activities, developing and maintaining critical mission design software for both NASA and commercial spaceflight programs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop variable degree‑of‑freedom simulations and related software tools for NASA and commercial missions.
• Integrate, test, and document new software enhancements within mission design tools.
• Provide recommendations to improve software design and development processes.
• Support activities to bring mission design software up to Class C per NPR 7150.2 and maintain it at that level.
• Collaborate with NASA civil servants and contractor teams to deliver high‑quality software.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a government background investigation.
• Willingness to travel internationally and work occasional overtime.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C++, Fortran and Python.
• Experience with Git/GitLab for source code management.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools and Agile development methodologies.
• Ability to develop software on Windows, macOS and Linux platforms.
• Knowledge of NASA software standards such as NPR‑7150.2D and DO‑178C.
