Medical Doctor – Public Health Department

About the role

The Metro Nashville Public Health Department seeks a qualified Medical Doctor to deliver high‑quality care to patients of all ages, with a focus on children and public‑health related conditions. The physician will work within the Tuberculosis Elimination Clinic and serve as a preceptor for advanced practice nurses.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct medical care and treatment in public‑health clinics.
• Serve as a medical preceptor for advanced practice nurses in pediatric and family‑planning programs.
• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat individuals with suspected or confirmed tuberculosis.
• Conduct pediatric examinations for schools, camps, and orphanages.
• Determine referral needs and coordinate with appropriate agencies.
• Maintain clinic and program records, prepare reports, and offer technical support to staff.
• Collaborate with the Tennessee Department of Health and local academic institutions on research projects.
• Participate in department‑wide medical leadership, emergency preparedness, and response activities.
• Respond to public inquiries and serve as deputy health officer when required.
• Be available for after‑hours on‑call duties.

Required profile

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited school.
• Completion of an accredited Family Medicine or Med‑Peds residency.
• Active medical license to practice in Tennessee.
• Valid Class “D” driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance.
• Experience or knowledge in supervising and training healthcare staff.
• Commitment to public‑health goals and collaborative practice.
