Managing Attorney

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Managing Attorney to lead its immigration legal services in New York. This senior legal professional will oversee both the Pro Se Assistance Program and the broader low‑cost immigration services, ensuring high‑quality representation for refugees, immigrants, and individuals in removal proceedings.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a team of attorneys and DOJ‑accredited representatives, providing mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development.
• Develop and enforce intake procedures, case acceptance policies, and caseload limits.
• Provide direct legal representation on complex USCIS matters while maintaining a limited personal caseload.
• Collaborate with community partners, IRC leadership, and the Legal Services Technical Unit to align program strategy.
• Lead grant management activities, including opening, monitoring, evaluation, and closing of funding cycles.
• Strategize funding approaches to sustain and expand immigration legal services.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in immigration law, including removal defense and family‑based petitions.
• Proven ability to manage and motivate a multidisciplinary legal team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong collaborative skills to work with external partners and internal stakeholders.
• Experience with grant development, monitoring, and reporting.
