Laboratory Procedure Technician – Gross Room

About the role

The Laboratory Procedure Technician works in the Gross Room of the pathology department, preparing surgical specimens for microscopic analysis. This position supports pathologists by ensuring accurate, timely, and safe processing of tissue samples.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, accession, and label incoming surgical specimens.
• Perform gross dissection, tissue trimming, and preparation according to standard operating procedures.
• Document specimen details, measurements, and findings in the laboratory information system.
• Maintain and calibrate grossing equipment and ensure a clean, safe work environment.
• Collaborate with pathologists, technologists, and other clinical staff to resolve specimen issues.
• Adhere to all safety, regulatory, and quality‑control guidelines.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training preferred.
• Prior experience in a clinical laboratory or pathology setting is advantageous.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Required skills

• Specimen handling and grossing techniques.
• Use of laboratory equipment such as scalpel stations, microtomes, and weighing balances.
• Basic computer proficiency for data entry into laboratory information systems.
• Knowledge of safety and infection‑control protocols.
