Inter‑Regional Adviser – Structural Transformation

About the role

The Inter‑Regional Adviser on Structural Transformation will support governments and stakeholders in developing countries to design and implement policies that promote higher‑productivity, value‑added economic activities and diversification, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide capacity‑development and policy advisory support through online platforms and short‑term field missions on structural transformation.
• Apply macro‑economic forecasting tools such as the World Economic Forecasting Model (WEFM), IMF Financial Programming model, and structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR) models to analyse trends.
• Guide empirical research, scenario development and quantitative analysis on macro‑economic and development issues.
• Develop and adapt economic, social and environmental models, including open‑source approaches, to strengthen national analytical capacities.
• Collaborate with the DESA IRA Network and ensure compliance with intergovernmental technical cooperation programmes.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in economics, development studies or a related field.
• Proven experience in macro‑economic analysis, structural transformation and capacity‑development for developing countries.
• Familiarity with the UN 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Director and coordinate with multiple UN units.
