Head of Talent (AI Safety Nonprofit)

About the role

We are a $25M‑funded nonprofit startup dedicated to building a global AI safety and biosecurity workforce. As Head of Talent, you will partner directly with the CEO to design and execute a hiring strategy that triples our high‑impact team within a year.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the recruitment effort to hire 20 exceptional professionals in the next 12 months.
• Build recruiting infrastructure from scratch, including pipelines, ATS configuration, and employer branding.
• Map the AI safety, biosecurity, and effective altruism talent landscape.
• Source candidates through cold outreach, events, and deep networks, maintaining a pipeline of 50+ qualified prospects.
• Own the end‑to‑end candidate experience and achieve an offer acceptance rate of ≥80%.
• Accelerate hiring speed to a median of four weeks from first contact to accepted offer.

Required profile

• Proven track record closing elite, hard‑to‑get candidates in competitive markets.
• Exceptional judgment for high‑agency, mission‑aligned talent.
• Experience thriving in high‑ambiguity startup environments.
• Familiarity with the AI safety, biosecurity, or effective altruism ecosystems.

Required skills

• Ashby (recruiting ATS) or similar recruiting platforms.
