Head of Customer Referral & Emerging Channels

About the role

Gusto is looking for a senior leader to turn customer goodwill into a scalable acquisition engine. As Head of Customer Referral & Emerging Channels you will own and expand the referral program, activate customer reviews, and explore new communication channels to drive growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the growth marketing team, set goals, coach members, and foster a culture of accountability and innovation.
• Own the end‑to‑end customer referral program, from strategy and incentive design to measurement, optimization, and revenue impact.
• Design and execute a rigorous experimentation roadmap, using data analysis to identify and scale high‑impact growth levers.
• Scout, pilot, and scale emerging acquisition channels such as chat and other emerging communication tools.
• Leverage AI to surface high‑intent advocates, personalize outreach at scale, and predict referral likelihood.
• Partner closely with the AEO team to coordinate emerging acquisition plays across the funnel.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading growth or demand‑generation teams in a fast‑moving environment.
• Strong analytical mindset with a track record of data‑driven experimentation and optimization.
• Ability to balance optimizing mature programs while building new, high‑potential initiatives.
• Excellent collaboration skills to work with Sales, Product, RevOps, and cross‑functional partners.
