Financial Controller

About the role

NW Ambulance is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its accounting function and provide strategic financial partnership to executive and operations leadership. This role is hands‑on, working closely with a 24/7 EMS environment to ensure accurate reporting, cash flow management, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly and annual close cycles, delivering audit‑ready P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements within 15 days.
• Reconcile third‑party billing reports with cash receipts, monitor collection rates, adjustments and write‑offs, and advise on billing relationships.
• Manage daily/weekly cash position, forecast short‑ and long‑term liquidity needs for payroll, operations and growth.
• Oversee fleet and medical equipment accounting, including depreciation schedules and capital expenditure planning.
• Develop operational KPI reporting that links units, runs and staffing to financial outcomes.
• Supervise general ledger, accounts payable and payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now and QuickBooks Enterprise.
• Ensure compliance with Washington State regulations such as PFML, L&I and cares fund.
• Establish strong internal controls, improve reporting processes and lead the accounting team.

Required profile

• 5‑10+ years of accounting experience with a strong focus on financial reporting and month‑end close.
• Experience overseeing third‑party billing or revenue cycle management.
• Familiarity with Washington State payroll and benefits compliance.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume healthcare or EMS environment.
