Financial Controller

About the role

We are partnering with a leading real‑estate firm in Northern Virginia to find a seasoned Financial Controller. The role will head the accounting team, overseeing all corporate accounting functions and supporting the company’s growth across development, construction, and asset management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead general ledger, month‑end close, consolidations, and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities.
• Manage accounting for development projects, joint ventures, intercompany transactions, and investment activities.
• Ensure accurate reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
• Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow analysis, and financial planning.
• Drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and update accounting policies.
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and consultants.
• Support technical accounting research and implementation of new standards.
• Assist with debt compliance, investor reporting, and banking relationships.
• Mentor and develop accounting staff while scaling the function.
• Collaborate with development, construction, asset management, and operations teams.
• Support ERP optimization and accounting system enhancements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with Big 4 public‑accounting background.
• Experience in real‑estate development, investment, or construction environments.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, consolidations, and multi‑entity accounting.
• Proven ability to lead month‑end close and financial reporting processes.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Comfortable in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial setting.

Required skills

• ERP systems such as Yardi, MRI, Sage Intacct, NetSuite or similar platforms.
