Director of Product Ops Digital Commons

About the role

The Director of Product Operations leads the Product Operations team at Elsevier, driving performance across sales, product management, consulting services and Digital Commons clients. This senior role combines deep product knowledge with people‑leadership to deliver technical solutions, manage risk and grow customer value.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with Sales to evaluate prospective clients, ensure smooth handoff and onboarding.
• Oversee migrations, legacy repository and content migrations, and specialist technical work.
• Manage post‑sales customer lifecycle, renewals, upsell, cross‑sell and drive retention.
• Identify and mitigate risk across the client portfolio, leading save efforts.
• Provide product and workflow insights to the Product team and communicate upcoming changes.
• Lead and develop the Product Operations team, set priorities and execute the department plan.
• Communicate cross‑functionally with Sales, Consulting Services and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree a plus).
• Significant experience in product operations, customer success or technical account management, preferably in SaaS, EdTech or scholarly publishing.
• Experience with institutional repository or digital scholarship platforms; familiarity with Digital Commons is a strong plus.
• Proven people‑leadership experience, developing managers and accountable for team results.
• Ability to scope and oversee technical work such as data migrations and manual integrations.
• Strong stakeholder management and data‑informed approach to product usage and customer health.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

What we offer

• U.S. national base pay range $115,400 – $192,300 per year (geographic differentials may apply).
