Director of Finance / Controller

About the role

We are seeking an experienced finance leader to oversee accounting operations and provide strategic financial guidance for a restaurant‑focused business in New York. The Director of Finance/Controller will translate financial data into actionable recommendations that drive performance and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the full accounting function for restaurant operations, ensuring accurate daily financial activity.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and vendor coordination.
• Monitor cash position, perform bank reconciliations, and support cash‑flow management.
• Produce regular financial statements and management reports highlighting performance and trends.
• Conduct weekly cost reviews of labor, food, and beverage, presenting clear analysis and recommendations.
• Drive budgeting and forecasting processes to support planning and expense control.
• Establish and refine accounting procedures and workflow standards.
• Oversee financial systems, including QuickBooks for general ledger and Toast for operational reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading accounting or finance functions within a restaurant group or hospitality organization.
• Strong understanding of food and beverage financial drivers, cost control, and operational performance analysis.
• Hands‑on knowledge of financial reporting, bookkeeping, and month‑end accounting processes.
• Experience managing budgeting, forecasting, and annual financial reporting activities.
• Ability to analyze labor, food, and beverage costs and turn findings into actionable business guidance.
