DDR Programming Support Intern

About the role

The DDR Programming Support Intern will work within the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) Branch of the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office. The internship is unpaid, full‑time (35 hours per week) and follows a hybrid schedule with four days on‑site at the UN premises in New York and one remote day. The role offers exposure to DDR processes across several UN peace operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in drafting and reviewing briefing notes, reports and other internal documents.
• Conduct research on current developments related to DDR in assigned countries.
• Support the Inter‑Agency Working Group on DDR, including the review of Integrated DDR Standards.
• Design UML diagrams (use case, class, activity, etc.) for data visualization.
• Help develop and disseminate communication and public‑information material.
• Maintain fact sheets and information repositories on peacekeeping missions.
• Attend conferences and meetings, providing verbal or written briefings.
• Provide administrative assistance, including meeting organization.
• Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or be in the final year of a bachelor’s programme (or hold an equivalent degree).
• Fluency in spoken and written English; French is also a working language of the UN Secretariat.
• Proficiency with standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams.
