Correctional Facility Nurse

About the role

The Correctional Facility Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to inmates within a Criminal Justice Center. Working closely with physicians, jail administrators, and correctional staff, the nurse ensures the health and safety of the incarcerated population while adhering to state medical policies and privacy regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform medical screenings, admissions, discharges, and transfers, documenting utilization data and patient outcomes.
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following physician orders and established protocols.
• Monitor and record patient signs, symptoms, and status, notifying medical staff of any changes.
• Maintain accurate nursing documentation and prepare required reports for the Texas Department of Health.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and revise care plans.

Required profile

• Current, unrestricted Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Texas Board of Nursing.
• 1–2 years of nursing experience; correctional nursing experience preferred.
• Ability to follow policies, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
