About the role

CP Engineers is seeking a seasoned Controller to lead accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This senior finance leader will partner with executive and practice leaders to provide insight, improve cash flow, and support strategic growth in a project‑based engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, month‑end close, reconciliations, and GAAP‑compliant financial statements.
• Manage project accounting: job cost tracking, work‑in‑process, percent‑complete revenue recognition, billing, and collections.
• Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and scenario modeling to the President/CEO and practice leaders.
• Maintain and enhance internal controls, budgeting, payroll, and reporting processes.
• Direct cash‑flow forecasting, banking relationships, and treasury activities.
• Own financial and project accounting systems (e.g., Deltek Ajera) to ensure data integrity.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team across AP, AR, payroll, billing, and GL.
• Coordinate audits, tax filings, and insurance/bonding requirements with external advisors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in professional services or engineering firms.
• Deep knowledge of project‑based accounting, revenue recognition, and GAAP.
• Proven ability to partner with senior leadership and drive financial performance.
