About the role
RMF Engineering is seeking a Commissioning Technician/Engineer to support mechanical, electrical, plumbing and controls commissioning on new construction and existing building projects. The role blends office work with field activities, requiring interaction with owners, contractors, and design teams to ensure building systems perform as intended.
Key responsibilities
- Support commissioning activities for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS/Controls, and central utility plants.
- Perform field observations, witness system testing, and verify equipment performance.
- Review construction documents, submittals, sequences of operation, and test procedures.
- Document deficiencies, track issue resolution, and prepare commissioning reports.
- Coordinate with contractors, facility operators, and project teams during construction and turnover.
- Assist with facility investigations, operational optimization studies, and owner training verification.
- Participate in troubleshooting building systems and controls integration issues.
- Travel to project sites throughout North Carolina and occasionally neighboring states.
Required profile
- Associate degree in engineering technology, HVAC, or related field (or Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering for senior level).
- 1‑3 years experience in HVAC, controls, testing & balancing, commissioning, or facilities operation (or 3‑8 years for senior engineering role).
- Basic understanding of MEP systems and ability to read construction documents.
- Strong communication, organizational skills, and a valid driver’s license.
