Youth Programs Intern – Fall 2026 (Unpaid)

About the role

The Youth Programs Intern will support the International Rescue Committee’s school and mentoring teams in helping refugee youth and their families achieve academic, vocational, and social integration goals. This unpaid, fall‑2026 position is based in Virginia and involves a mix of office work, field trips, and direct client interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Attend the Volunteer/Intern orientation and complete required training.
• Assist in planning and coordinating after‑school tutoring, college‑prep workshops, and monthly outings.
• Provide administrative support such as phone calls, filing, data entry, and handling signed paperwork.
• Transport clients and families to appointments, school bus orientations, and field trips.
• Support preschool and school enrollment processes, including completing forms and delivering documents.
• Record hours and submit monthly timesheets via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.

Required profile

• Pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine interest in working with refugee communities.
• Availability for occasional evenings or weekends.
• Own a car, valid driver’s license, and insurance.
• Flexibility to accommodate client needs and respect diverse cultural backgrounds.
