Yard Switcher

About the role

HD Supply is hiring a Yard Switcher to operate a switcher truck inside a distribution center yard. The driver moves tractor trailers between shipping and receiving docks, backs them up to loading docks, performs safety checks, opens bay doors and helps dock workers load and unload inventory. The position requires operating a company or rental vehicle, which may happen during the average work week, and the company monitors Motor Vehicle Records.

Key responsibilities

• Transport trailers within the distribution center, moving them between shipping and receiving docks
• Couple and uncouple tractor-trailer units, including connecting and disconnecting brake lines as needed
• Move and organize line-haul trailers in the shipping yard so inventory can move efficiently
• Ensure trailers are ready for loading, unloading and transport, and document all trailer moves
• Perform equipment inspections in line with DOT regulations and internal procedures
• Refuel the switcher truck when needed

Required profile

• Class A or B CDL issued in the state of residence, with a hazardous materials endorsement
• 2+ years of commercial driving experience under FMCSA and DOT regulations
• No more than 2 minor accidents and no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years
• Prior yard jockey experience preferred
• Acceptable MVR status and a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement
• Generally 5-7 years of experience in a related area; technical certification or associate degree may be required in some areas
