Windows Systems Administrator II

About the role

The Advanced Technology Laboratory (ATL) seeks a Windows Systems Administrator II to provide comprehensive Windows systems administration support. This role ensures the reliability, security, and compliance of Windows, Mac, and server environments in line with NIST frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and remediate compliance for Windows, Mac, and server platforms according to NIST guidelines.
• Install, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Windows desktops, servers, workstations, laptops, and virtual machines.
• Manage Windows Server backup services and CIFS/SMB storage solutions, including installation, configuration, and escalation.
• Conduct audits of backup and storage systems to verify adherence to information assurance and retention policies.
• Document processes, procedures, and configuration changes for Windows, storage, and backup solutions.
• Maintain hardware and software inventories and related documentation.
• Provide training to junior staff and end‑user support for software and hardware issues.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum two years of IT support and compliance experience, with a focus on Windows system administration.
• Ability to obtain a DoD 8570.1/8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CompTIA CySA+ or Security+) within six months of hire.
• Strong organizational skills and willingness to work with emerging technologies.

Required skills

• Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 administration.
• Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP management.
• PowerShell scripting (or Python/VBScript) for automation.
• Experience with vulnerability scanners such as Nessus.
• Familiarity with SIEM solutions like Splunk.
• File server management and network storage (NAS, SAN, CIFS/SMB).
• Backup services, patch management, and endpoint protection.
• Basic networking concepts and compliance frameworks (NIST 800‑171, CMMC, ISO 27001).
