Wildland Firefighter / Ranger – Dougherty/Lee County

About the role

The Georgia Forestry Commission is seeking a motivated Wildland Firefighter/Ranger to join its Dougherty/Lee County unit based in Albany, GA. This position involves protecting Georgia's forest resources through fire suppression, prevention, and emergency response.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to wildland fire incidents and conduct fire suppression operations.
• Perform fire prevention activities, including public education and hazard assessments.
• Assist in ranger duties such as monitoring forest health and reporting hazards.
• Maintain equipment, vehicles, and personal protective gear in operational condition.
• Collaborate with other emergency responders and state agencies during incidents.

Required profile

• Class A CDL learner’s permit before hire and ability to obtain a full CDL within 12 weeks.
• Pass background investigation, medical evaluation, and physical fitness tests.
• Willingness to live or relocate within 45 minutes of the Albany work site.
• Ability to work outdoors in demanding conditions, including steep terrain, heat, smoke, and high altitudes.
