Welding Engineer

About the role

Saronic Technologies is seeking a Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) with extensive experience in aluminum shipbuilding and mixed‑alloy marine systems to support its Gulf Coast shipyard operations. The role will lead welding engineering activities across production lines, ensuring robust processes and scaling capabilities for high‑volume manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and qualify WPS/PQRs for aluminum (5xxx/6xxx series), CuNi piping, carbon steel, and stainless steel.
• Provide hands‑on technical support for GMAW (MIG), FCAW, GTAW (TIG), and SMAW processes.
• Oversee welding of marine piping systems, ensuring corrosion resistance and proper procedures.
• Manage distortion control and heat‑input challenges for aluminum structures.
• Support inspection and QA teams with weld acceptance criteria and NDT methods (UT, RT, MT, PT).
• Troubleshoot weld discontinuities across dissimilar metals.
• Coordinate with engineering, planning, and production to improve weld efficiency and reduce rework.
• Maintain documentation for ABS/classification society and customer audits.
• Train and mentor welders on aluminum techniques, cleanliness standards, and alloy‑specific procedures.

Required profile

• Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) with strong experience in aluminum shipbuilding and mixed‑alloy marine systems.
• Proven ability to develop technical reports, support procurement decisions, and drive process improvements.
• Experience with welding automation and the ability to train others on new equipment.
• Understanding of welding equipment maintenance and ability to create maintenance plans.
• Capability to work closely with software engineering teams on production software enhancements.
