Wastewater Operator

About the role

Veolia is seeking a motivated Wastewater Operator to manage daily operations and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility. The position involves both indoor and outdoor tasks, ensuring the plant runs efficiently, safely, and in compliance with environmental regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and adjust plant processes using SCADA and other control interfaces.
• Analyze flow, pressure, and analytical data to optimize performance.
• Conduct routine laboratory testing of water samples and document results.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair pumps, valves, clarifiers, aeration tanks, digesters, and related equipment.
• Operate and maintain the filter press for sludge dewatering.
• Respond to equipment failures, emergencies, and environmental incidents.
• Collaborate with plant staff, report status to supervisors, and mentor junior personnel.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field preferred.
• Experience operating or maintaining wastewater treatment equipment is a plus.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including extreme weather.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SCADA systems and control interfaces.
• Knowledge of flow meters, pressure gauges, and analytical equipment.
• Laboratory testing of water quality parameters.
• Operation and preventative maintenance of filter presses.
• Maintenance of pumps, valves, clarifiers, aeration tanks, and digesters.
• Understanding of local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
