Waste/Recycling Technician

About the role

The Waste/Recycling Technician ensures proper placement, sorting, cleaning, and discarding of materials in a recycling facility. The role involves both indoor and outdoor work in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manually sort recyclable materials at various stations (Pre‑Sort, Paper, OCC, Plastics, Fiber, Aluminum) to remove trash and recover valuable items.
• Break down mixed rigid plastics using a Sawzall or similar hand tools for efficient baling.
• Clean receiving, processing, storage areas, equipment, site grounds, and building facilities.
• Sort incoming and baled materials to identify composition and improve bale quality.
• Participate in quality‑control activities such as bale breaks, waste sorts, and line sorts.
• Maintain safety equipment and follow fall‑arrest procedures when cleaning elevated screening equipment.

Required profile

• Pass a drug screening and background check.
• Ability to work fast‑paced with speed and accuracy.
• Follow oral and written instructions and maintain regular attendance.
• Lift at least 50 lb and stand for prolonged periods.
• Authorized to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Manual sorting of recyclable streams.
• Use of Sawzall or similar portable hand tools.
• Knowledge of safety equipment (hard hat, safety vest, goggles, steel‑toe boots).
