VP, Real Estate Strategy & Store Development

About the role

AKIRA is seeking a senior leader to own the end‑to‑end store‑development motion across the United States. Reporting to the COO, the VP will drive real‑estate strategy, lease negotiations, construction, openings, remodels, and ongoing facilities management for a fast‑fashion brand with 40+ stores and a growing e‑commerce business.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute a multi‑year real‑estate roadmap, market selection, and portfolio scorecard.
• Lead lease deal‑making, including renewals, new leases, relocations, and landlord relationships with zero missed renewals.
• Oversee new‑store construction from LOI to doors‑open, managing schedules through a national general‑contractor network.
• Direct remodel programs, evaluating scope, ROI, and execution.
• Manage store facilities, ongoing repair & maintenance, energy initiatives, and national sourcing for non‑merchandise items.
• Lead and develop the internal construction team while coordinating external brokers, architects, and GCs.

Required profile

• Nationwide experience leading real‑estate and construction across multiple U.S. regions.
• Established, active relationships with national general contractors.
• Proven track record negotiating with major mall REITs (Simon, Brookfield, Macerich, Washington Prime, Tanger, etc.).
• 10+ years in real‑estate, construction, or store‑development for specialty retail at scale.
