VP of Pharmacy

About the role

The Vice President of Pharmacy will lead end‑to‑end pharmacy operations for the US Family Health Plan of Southern New England. This senior executive oversees outpatient pharmacies, mail‑order services, and an external retail network, ensuring high‑quality patient care and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all retail pharmacy functions, including prescription intake, dispensing, fulfillment, shipping and returns across multiple fulfillment centers.
• Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with growth objectives, service levels and cost targets.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives focused on automation, productivity, accuracy, cycle‑time reduction and capacity planning.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and accrediting bodies (Boards of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA, URAC, Massachusetts Controlled Substance licensure).
• Oversee audit readiness, inspections, corrective action plans and documentation standards.
• Manage pharmacy P&L, labor, inventory controls, waste and shipping costs.
• Develop specialty‑drug strategy, monitor KPIs (turnaround time, order accuracy, cost per script, inventory turns, SLAs) and identify cost‑optimization opportunities.
• Build and develop multi‑site pharmacy teams, fostering a culture of accountability, safety and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in pharmacy operations, preferably within a health‑plan or integrated health system.
• Deep knowledge of regulatory requirements (DEA, FDA, state Boards of Pharmacy, URAC) and medication‑safety best practices.
• Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L, budgeting and cost‑optimization initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large, multi‑disciplinary teams and drive organizational change.
• Experience with pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) relationships, drug utilization review and specialty‑pharmacy programs.
