Volunteer – Patient Support at UAMS

About the role

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking compassionate volunteers to enhance the experience of patients and their families on campus. Volunteers provide both direct and indirect support, contributing to a welcoming environment and improving overall patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Assist patients and visitors with navigation, information, and comfort needs.
• Provide emotional support and companionship during treatment or waiting periods.
• Support staff by performing non‑clinical tasks such as delivering items, organizing waiting areas, and helping with wheelchair transport.
• Participate in special events and community outreach activities as needed.

Required profile

• Extroverted, mature, and service‑oriented with a strong sense of compassion.
• Physically able to walk, stand, or push a wheelchair for extended periods.
• Clear communication skills in English; additional language abilities are a plus.
• Self‑motivated, flexible, and capable of working independently.
