Volunteer Mobilization Lead

About the role

The Volunteer Mobilization Lead drives the growth and sustainability of the volunteer workforce supporting Disaster Response Services. Reporting to the DRS Director, this on‑site position in Byron Center, MI, shapes recruitment, engagement, training and retention strategies that enhance the organization’s capacity to respond to emergencies and long‑term recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute volunteer recruitment and mobilization plans, targeting churches, schools, community groups and strategic partners.
• Collaborate with program managers and field teams to align volunteer needs with operational priorities and deployment schedules.
• Lead onboarding, orientation, communication and recognition initiatives that improve the overall volunteer experience.
• Develop and maintain volunteer management systems, digital onboarding tools, databases and communication platforms.
• Collect and analyze volunteer feedback to continuously refine processes and training resources.

Required profile

• Demonstrated leadership in volunteer coordination or nonprofit program management.
• Experience working in disaster response, emergency management or related humanitarian fields.
• Proven ability to build partnerships with community organizations and faith‑based groups.
• Strong analytical mindset to track engagement metrics and inform strategy.
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in volunteer recruitment and retention.
