Vision Modeling Engineer – Vision Science

About the role

Alcon is seeking a Vision Science – Vision Modeling Engineer to develop optical designs and innovative methods for ophthalmic medical devices. The role will be based on‑site in Johns Creek, GA and will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to advance product designs for presbyopia, myopia and astigmatism correction.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver ophthalmic designs, drawings and presentations using state‑of‑the‑art optical and mechanical design tools.
• Advance concepts from ideation through R&D to product launch.
• Develop and validate clinical and predictive vision models, emphasizing MATLAB‑based simulation.
• Perform data analysis, image processing and simulation of clinical and bench‑lens data with custom MATLAB scripts.
• Partner with multi‑functional teams to define requirements, prioritize work and create AI/ML‑enabled design workflows.
• Automate design and modeling processes for document generation, vision modeling and optimization.
• Provide optical engineering and vision science expertise across the organization and contribute to intellectual property.

Required profile

• Degree in Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical/Computer Engineering, Vision Science, Visual Optics or Physics.
• Proven track record of innovations in vision science or visual optics (preferred).
• Experience working with design engineers, metrology engineers, data scientists, chemists, process scientists and clinicians.

Required skills

• MATLAB for modelling, simulation, data analysis and image processing.
• Optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V) and mechanical design tools.
• AI/ML workflow development for optical design.
• Automated design and optimization scripting.
• Vision modeling and clinical data interpretation.
