Violence Prevention Specialist

About the role

The Violence Prevention Specialist works to reduce violence and improve public safety across Pittsburgh neighborhoods. This position serves as a trusted liaison among community members, schools, faith‑based groups, healthcare providers, and public safety agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Engage proactively with communities to identify individuals and groups at elevated risk for violence.
• Mediate conflicts, de‑escalate situations, and connect at‑risk persons with supportive resources.
• Develop and implement outreach initiatives and intervention strategies.
• Build collaborative partnerships with local organizations, schools, and public safety agencies.
• Promote positive relationships and support violence‑prevention programs that strengthen neighborhood stability.

Required profile

• Three (3) years of full‑time experience in community outreach, violence prevention, or related fields.
• Post‑secondary education with official transcripts submitted prior to hire.
• Residency in the City of Pittsburgh before employment and commitment to remain a resident.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including criminal, driver’s license, and tax records.
