Vice President of External Affairs

About the role

The Vice President of External Affairs is a senior leader reporting to the President & CEO, responsible for shaping and executing an integrated external affairs strategy that advances the foundation’s mission, builds partnerships, and strengthens brand presence.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the President, leadership team, and Board on emerging opportunities, reputational risks, and policy positions.
• Develop and implement an integrated external affairs strategy aligned with the three‑year strategic plan, including fundraising, marketing, communications, and community engagement.
• Lead a seven‑person team, overseeing fundraising plans, brand development, crisis management, and vendor selection.
• Serve as a visible ambassador for the foundation, building relationships with community leaders, media, and partners.
• Drive digital strategy, marketing technology, and data‑informed decision‑making to enhance fundraising and engagement.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or certification preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in external affairs, development, or marketing/communications.
• Proven experience representing an organization publicly, handling media, and managing crisis situations.
• Strong strategic thinker with ability to build infrastructure and systems from the ground up.
• Passion for the foundation’s mission of equity and gender‑expansive empowerment.
