About the role

The Georgia Department of Agriculture is seeking a motivated Veterinary Medical Officer to join its Animal Health Division. This full‑time, permanent position blends veterinary medicine, emergency response, public health, and livestock production to safeguard the state’s animal agriculture.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate potential reportable and foreign animal disease incidents.
• Conduct field‑based disease surveillance and emergency response activities.
• Collect, process, and submit diagnostic samples from livestock and other species.
• Implement regulatory actions such as quarantines and movement controls.
• Assist in developing disease control, containment, and eradication plans.
• Coordinate case management, documentation, and sample logistics.

Required profile

• DVM degree and active veterinary license.
• Strong interest in animal health, disease surveillance, and emergency preparedness.
• Ability to work independently in field settings and collaborate with producers, agencies, and laboratories.
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Experience with livestock species (cattle, swine, small ruminants, equine, poultry, etc.).
• Knowledge of regulatory veterinary medicine and disease traceability programs.
• Field investigation and sample collection techniques.
