Utility Plant Operator I – 24/7 Hot Water Systems

About the role
The University of Northern Colorado seeks a Utility Plant Operator I to ensure continuous delivery of high‑temperature hot water for domestic use, heating, and air‑conditioning across campus facilities. This full‑time, onsite position operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Key responsibilities
- Visually inspect, monitor, and record hourly readings of boilers, pumps, air compressors, compression tank pressures, and outside air temperature.
- Conduct water chemical analysis and adjust treatment programs for boilers, city water, system water, cooling‑tower water, and water softeners.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for equipment and computer systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance on a daily, monthly, and annual schedule based on equipment usage.
- Assist the HVAC shop as needed.
Required profile
- Current Colorado residency at the time of application.
- Four (4) years of relevant experience in utility plant operations or an equivalent mix of education, apprenticeship, and experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
Required skills
- Boiler operation and monitoring.
- Pump and air‑compressor monitoring.
- Water chemical analysis and treatment.
- Preventative maintenance procedures.
- Basic HVAC assistance.
