Utilities Plant Operator I/II – Water

About the role

The City of Modesto is seeking motivated individuals to join its Utilities team as Utilities Plant Operator I/II in the Water Division. This position supports the operation and maintenance of the city’s water production and treatment facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform skilled and semi‑skilled technical duties in water plant operations.
• Assist with routine maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of treatment equipment.
• Follow established operating procedures and safety protocols.
• Document operational data and report any irregularities.
• Support the transition from trainee to fully independent operator.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; higher education incentives available (2.5% for Bachelor’s, 5% for Master’s).
• Ability to work under supervision (Operator I) or independently with occasional guidance (Operator II).
• Willingness to obtain certifications required for higher‑level classification.
• Commitment to public service and community reliability.
