Unit Secretary – Med/Surg (Full‑Time)

About the role

The Unit Secretary provides essential clerical support for a medical‑surgical unit, ensuring smooth admission, discharge and transfer processes. This full‑time position serves as a liaison between patients, families and staff, contributing to a positive patient experience.

Key responsibilities

• Process reservations, manage phone calls and respond to patient, family and staff requests promptly.
• Serve as the Patient Experience Ambassador for the unit.
• Review EPIC chart reports to verify accurate unit charges.
• Provide general clerical assistance, including data entry and document handling.
• Adapt communication style to respect patient privacy and cultural needs.
• Perform any other related duties as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and manage time effectively.
• Understanding of current medical terminology.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑style applications and standard office software.
• Computer data‑entry skills and ability to retrieve information quickly.
• Experience using the EPIC electronic health record system.
