Unit Secretary - Emergency Room

About the role

The Unit Secretary is the administrative backbone of the Emergency Room, ensuring smooth operations and supporting the clinical team. You will manage clerical tasks, maintain patient records, and create a welcoming environment for patients, families, and staff.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and organized nursing station while performing priority technical procedures.
• Transcribe physician orders and keep patient charts up‑to‑date.
• Perform receptionist duties, answer phones, and manage unit communications.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to improve patient care and unit flow.
• Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and protect patient confidentiality.
• Enter supply rooms as needed and ensure proper handling of medical supplies.
• Document care activities in accordance with hospital policies.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
• 1–3 years of experience as a Secretary or Unit Clerk in a healthcare setting.
• Preferred Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Medical Science, or related field.
• Availability to work night shifts.
