Transportation Dispatcher

About the role

The Transportation Dispatcher ensures that all bus routes run on schedule while providing support and guidance to drivers and monitors. This position is the central communication hub for daily operations, handling dispatch, routing, and problem‑solving for a large student transportation network.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee routing and scheduling of all buses.
• Coach and counsel drivers and monitors on performance and safety.
• Manage high‑volume phone and radio traffic.
• Receive and resolve scheduling and driver complaints, reporting to the Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager.
• Serve as the primary liaison with major contracted customers.
• Handle charter reservations, billing, and driver payroll when required.
• Provide solutions for drop‑off and pick‑up issues.
• Perform backup driver duties and miscellaneous clerical tasks.
• Complete special project assignments and assist with day‑to‑day supervision.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of dispatch or related transportation experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of radio dispatch equipment.
• Excellent communication and customer‑service abilities.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work under time constraints.
• Previous experience in terminal operations, dispatch, or driver roles.
• Computer literate.
• Subject to DOT drug testing and physical requirements.
