Tool & Die Maker

About the role

Tyler Coupling, part of McWane, is looking for a Tool & Die Maker in Marshfield, Missouri. The maker sets up and operates computer-controlled and mechanically controlled machine tools to produce precision metal parts, instruments and tools. The position is full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, band saws, surface grinders, radial drill presses and bench grinders, and hand power tools used in machining, assembling and repairing metal parts, progressive dies, injection molds, tools and equipment.
• Select the right tool steel, heat treat and grind to finished blueprints or old part specifications.
• Grind and fit carbide die components to very critical tolerances.
• Check progressive dies and injection molds to identify repairs needed so products meet specifications.
• Interpret blueprints, layouts, sketches and other drawings, and build dies or molds from working stock.
• Inspect and measure finished material to required specifications.
• Keep work areas clean, safe and orderly, and perform other related duties as required.

Required profile

• Able to follow instructions and complete tasks with minimal assistance.
• Willingness to train new Tool & Die Makers.
• Able to make jigs and fixtures and construct tooling for dies.
• Understands the uses and best applications of each tool steel.

Required skills

• Operate drill press, mill, grinder and lathe with set-up assistance, and set them up independently.
• Read calipers, micrometers and indicators, and understand shop prints.
• Complete the heat treat process and grind tooling to tight tolerances.
• Use shop math and sharpen and maintain tooling for dies.
