Tool & Die Maker (Aviation) - CBA Fort Hood, TX

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Tool & Die Maker for its CBA Fort Hood, Texas position. The maker constructs and repairs jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, metal dies and molds used in shaping or forming metal or non-metallic material, and works closely with aviation-related fabrication.

Key responsibilities

• Construct and repair jigs, fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, dies and molds.
• Plan and lay out work from models, blueprints, drawings or specifications.
• Select materials, tools and processes based on an understanding of metals and alloys.
• Make shop computations and set up and operate machine tools and related equipment.
• Use hand tools and precision instruments to work to tight tolerances, heat-treat parts and assemble them to prescribed tolerances.
• Perform additional duties as requested.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 5 years of work experience, including at least 4 years of recent experience in Tool & Die Making.
• Training in machine shop and tool room practices (blueprint reading, technical drafting, metalworking, machine tooling), usually via apprenticeship or equivalent; a trade or vocational school certificate is acceptable.
• Previous aviation experience fabricating aircraft critical structural components.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a NACI (T1) Public Trust security clearance; US citizenship is required for facility credentials.
• Physical ability to lift and push at least 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and work in a hangar or outdoors with possible exposure to noise, fumes and dust.

Required skills

• CNC software and programming, machine setup, blueprint reading and tolerance evaluation.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Own tools and toolbox; recruiters provide toolbox requirements after selection.
