Tool and Die Maker

About the role

As a Tool and Die Maker at OTTO Engineering you will lead tool development and debug new dies for our high‑speed stamping operations. The position is based in our Tech Center where you will work with cutting‑edge equipment to design, build, and maintain short‑run tooling and large‑volume stamping dies.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and safe work area while handling tool steels and production materials.
• Interpret blueprints and CAD data to construct, alter, or repair tools.
• Operate tool‑room equipment and fabricate tooling in the stamping department.
• Maintain tooling records for preventative maintenance and set up dies, material feeds, and punch presses for trial runs.
• Debug and troubleshoot new tooling during part‑approval processes.
• Assist with die changeovers and other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Completed Tool and Die apprenticeship or 10+ years of equivalent experience.
• 5‑7 years as a Tool and Die Maker with strong troubleshooting skills.
• Expertise in blueprint reading with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT).
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
• Physical ability to lift 50 lb with assistance and push 200 lb on wheeled carts.
• Availability for mandatory overtime or non‑standard work schedules.
• CNC mill and EDM experience is a plus.
