Tool and Die Maker Apprentice

About the role

OTTO Engineering’s Tech Center is looking for a Tool and Die Maker Apprentice to learn metal‑stamping and die‑set‑up processes. The three‑year program combines evening classroom instruction with hands‑on daytime work, preparing you to operate and maintain a range of machining equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate tool‑room equipment and manual machines such as saws, mills, drill presses, grinders, lathes, wire EDM and CNC milling.
• Perform routine maintenance on machines and assist with press operations.
• Build, assemble and set up new tooling and dies.
• Interpret tooling prints and maintain a clean, safe work area.
• Assist with additional duties as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma and completion of an industrial‑technology program or equivalent.
• Consistent attendance, neat appearance and willingness to excel in the machining trade.
• Good communication and organizational skills, with availability for non‑standard or extended schedules.
• Ability to reach heights using a stepladder and lift equipment up to 50 lb in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Operation of manual machines: saws, mills, drill presses, grinder, lathes, wire EDM, CNC milling.
• Metal stamping and die set‑up.
• Interpretation of tooling prints.
