Terminal Operator / Cover Handler

About the role

The Terminal Operator / Cover Handler works on a grain export terminal, ensuring safe and efficient barge covering and uncovering operations. This position supports the overall barge unloading process and contributes to the facility’s safety, health, and environmental programs.

Key responsibilities

• Participate actively in the facility SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) programs and adhere to all relevant policies.
• Identify barge cover types and rig, lift, and reset covers safely under varying river and weather conditions.
• Operate the barge winching system to position barges, place haul cables, and assist the Cover Station operator.
• Communicate grain and by‑product types to the Cover Station operator when covers are lifted.
• Inspect winching equipment and cables, distinguishing between sound and worn components.
• Report excessive emissions from unloaders or loading spouts to the Unloader operator.
• Perform houseman duties such as bin cleaning, housekeeping, and basic maintenance support as directed.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a TWIC card.
• Entry‑level labor experience or willingness to learn on the job.
• Ability to work safely in a physical, outdoor environment with exposure to high/low river conditions and inclement weather.
