Technical Project Manager (Test Systems)
impulsespace · Redondo Beach
Job description
About the role
Impulse Space is looking for a Technical Project Manager (Test Systems) to lead the planning, build, integration and deployment of complex test systems. The role coordinates cross-functional engineering teams so that test systems are designed, built, qualified and ready to support product development and production schedules. Test systems may include pressure, vacuum, thermal, RF and PCBA test systems, as well as other hardware and software used to validate product performance and reliability.
Key responsibilities
- Own end-to-end program execution for test system builds, from requirements and design through fabrication, integration, qualification and deployment.
- Develop and maintain detailed schedules, milestones, dependencies and critical paths for multiple test system builds.
- Coordinate engineering givers and receivers so that hardware, software, documentation, fixtures, instrumentation and other deliverables are available when needed.
- Partner with mechanical, electrical, RF, thermal, software, manufacturing and test engineers to drive execution.
- Track system-level readiness, identify gaps that could affect build or test schedules, and escalate blockers until resolved.
- Coordinate integration, bring-up, debugging, validation and qualification of test systems.
- Maintain ownership of action items, risks, dependencies and deliverables, and communicate program status, risks and schedule changes to technical and leadership stakeholders.
- Build program mechanisms that improve visibility, accountability and execution, and proactively develop mitigation plans for schedule and technical risks.
Required profile
- 5+ years' experience managing complex technical programs involving hardware, test systems or engineering infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree (4-year degree) from an accredited college or university in a technical or non-technical field.
- Strong technical aptitude, organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage complex schedules with many dependencies.
- Strong communication skills, persistence in driving difficult problems to resolution, and ability to work independently across cross-functional teams.
- Preferred: 7+ years of similar experience, an engineering, management or related technical degree, experience in pressure, vacuum, thermal, RF or PCBA testing, and experience at a space start-up.
What we offer
- Stated pay range of $135,000 - $185,000 per year.
- Possible long-term incentives in the form of stock options for full-time hires.
- Medical, vision and dental coverage and access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
